From Reselling to a Stable Cleaning Franchise in Edmonton
Tell us about yourself and what brought you to Edmonton?
I'm an immigrant. We got our permanent residence on PEI, but we had visited Edmonton before for work. We moved to PEI to get our permanent residence and then decided to come back to Edmonton.
What did you do before starting your Cleany franchise?
Before Cleany, I was in the reselling business — selling jewelry, luxury bags, and shoes, mainly to the Filipino community. It was high-risk and not a long-term stable business. I was looking for something more formal and reliable.
What made you choose Cleany Edmonton?
The biggest reason was flexibility. I can work from home, oversee the cleaners, and handle customer service while taking care of my kids. It perfectly matched what I needed.
What were the early challenges in your first months with Cleany?
I was surprised by some demanding and rude clients who asked for refunds. Payment issues, like declined cards, were also frustrating at times. But we learned and improved quickly.
How has your Cleany Edmonton business grown?
We started from zero. Now we are almost reaching $20,000 per month in revenue. The biggest wins are our loyal recurring clients and dedicated cleaners who stay with us because of the quality service we provide.
Do you still do the cleaning yourself?
No, I stopped doing hands-on cleaning in March 2026. I only bring the carpet cleaning machine when needed. Most of the time, my team handles the jobs. I focus on quality checks and talking to clients.
How do you manage your cleaning team?
Work is work. I stay fair — I listen to their side of the story, but if recleaning is needed, they take responsibility. I also host year-end parties at my house to appreciate them. My cleaners are very loyal.
How do you protect the business when clients try to contact cleaners directly?
My team always forwards them back to the company. It keeps everything professional and ensures proper service standards.
What does a typical day or week look like as a Cleany franchise owner?
I only spend 2-3 hours a day messaging virtual assistants and cleaners. Sometimes I give rides if needed. The system allows me to have real flexibility.
Do you attend networking events in Edmonton?
Yes, I used to go regularly and gained several clients from networking. I'm currently on pause because my mom returned to the Philippines, but we continue to get good exposure.
What advice would you give to someone considering a cleaning franchise?
This business is perfect for business-minded people who are patient. You're dealing with different clients every day. You don't have to quit your job immediately — the Cleany system is excellent. You just need to hire and manage cleaners. The business can run smoothly while you maintain balance.
